Jewelry making

This is our last workshop for this class. I have been making jewelries ever since, but this year, I got so interested with jewelries made out of beads. Last summer, I bought a lot of beads and findings and started making jewelries. I sold some and gave some to my friends during special occasions. I learned how to work with the findings thru research. Making bead accessories are time consuming but very therapeutic.

During the workshop of our teacher mady, i learned new techniques that i could use for my future works. I love listening to other people because I always learn something new that could help me in the future:)

Clay art

I had so much fun during the clay art workshop. I’ve been wanting to try clay art ever since but I never got the chance to do it. When Pau told me that this will be her topic for her workshop I got really excited to do it. I asked her to buy clays for me and I also bought a pack in toy kingdom. It was really for the kids but when I used them, it worked! Awesome!!:D

Pau was a very effective teacher, she gave us a background of her topic and she gave tips on how to bake the clay. She even brought an oven toaster for us!:) when I got home, I opened all my clay and decided to make cartoon characters out of it, I thought of sesame street and made all of this:) I had so much fun working with clay!:)

Origami

Origami- the traditional Japanese art or technique of folding paper into a variety of decorative forms. Im very sure that every child tried to fold papers to make a plane or a boat. This was a very popular origami forms when I was a child. It was fun folding papers but it’s also difficult to do, you have to follow some steps to achieve your desired design.

For this workshop I made a Japanese paper doll wearing an Obi. I was searching the net for designs and I saw this cute origami, I got nice papers and followed the steps in the Internet. here is my output for this workshop:)

Paper beads

I find this workshop very interesting. I never thought I could make beads out of paper. I never thought it was possible, until we had this workshop. It was very easy and fun at the same time. You just roll up a piece of paper on a stick put glue, vanish, let it dry then you’ll have your own beads:) its so cool that you could make different shapes if only you use your imagination:)

For this project, I used 2 colored papers, one blue and one orange, I cut them in a right triangle shape to have a triangle shaped beads. I connected them all using a wire then made a statement necklace. It was really fun and interesting. I would like to make more beads but this time maybe I’ll use wrapping paper with nice prints:)

Wire Art

Wire art is very fun yet very tiring at the same time. During the workshop, our teachers aien and Nicole were very patient teaching us some techniques for wire art. It was so cool especially when Nicole showed the class a machine that twists the wire on it self. It was really hard to manipulate the wire. Especially the thick wires. The pliers were very useful for this workshop, the rounded nose pliers were really important in wire art bacause the wire follows the roundedness of the pliers. I had fun doing this workshop even though my hands were hurting so much after. I made a necklace out of my silver wire, I made a lot of twists and combined them with one another:) here is my wire art project:)

Tie dye

Tie dye is a very fun and easy technique used in arts and crafts, I had a lot of experiences with tie dye. I made 3 tie dyed shirts already last august, and I must say I had so much fun doing it. I got useful techniques from the Internet, the usage of syringe is very useful and it also saves the dye. During the workshop I tried to tie dye a canvas bag, I had a hard time because first it wasn’t absorbing the dye and second the colors were mixing up. After a while I opened it up and the colors really mixed together. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be:) I liked how the color mixed. After this workshop I learned that the best canvas to use for tie dye are the cottoned fabric. And I also realized that you can never go wrong with tie dye, it will always turn out good!:)

Decoupage/Mosaic

I had so much fun during the decoupage workshop! Our teacher Gelo Salanga was very energetic during the session. He also gave us individual materials that represened us. I was so inspired by all his samples and that is why I thought of decoupaging and adding mosaic on my old bag.

I bought this bag during my 1st year in college, it was just a simple brown leatherette body/shoulder bag. I used a wrapping paper for the decoupage and beads for the mosaic. It was so fun and easy to do. The decoupage part was so fast to do, but I had a hard time attaching the beads to the wrapping paper. I used mighty bond to stick the beads, but it was falling off after awhile. I placed a lot of mighty bond which bleached the paper and some parts of the bag. When I passed the project, I learned from my classmates that I should’ve used elmers glue to stick the beads and varnished it with nail polish after:) I made necessary adjustments after and now my decoupage/mosaic bag is ready to be used!:)
